Botox and sport

Sports and beauty always go together», - so begins 99% of the articles on this topic. One Monday morning, you take a dumbbell in one hand, a bottle of water in the other - and from that moment on, you just get prettier.

Yes, that’s it! But wait, not really.

I mean, the more you do, the more you have to give up. That’s not only about communication with friends ("I can’t, I’m doing sport right now"), going to the cinema («I have to go on run!») and museums («I have a competition, I can’t do it, sorry!»).

The fact that the skin, hair, nails and even the body - in general all that falls into the vague category of “beauty” - suffers a lot. Just because you don’t have enough time for it.

For many years in the world of cosmetology one of the most popular rejuvenating procedures are Botox injections. Before deciding on a procedure, many patients ask a number of questions about the limitations that may occur after injections. One of the often discussed topics is the possibility to exercise after Botox?

How does Botox affect muscles?

The basis of Botox, which is popularly used to call all products based on botulinum toxin type A, is a neuroparalytic organic poison, which in high doses can cause respiratory arrest and lead to death. However, injections in traditional medicine and cosmetology used negligible and well-calibrated dosage of the substance, which passed a preliminary laboratory cleaning from harmful impurities and is absolutely safe for the human body.

The principle of action of botulinum toxin is aimed at temporarily limiting the muscle activity of a certain area of the face and body in order to aesthetically correct mimic wrinkles and such an unpleasant pathology as increased sweating (hyperhidrosis).

Most often women prefer to correct muscles in the corners of the eyes, on the forehead, between the eyebrows and around the mouth, which take an active part in the daily facial expressions. After a Botox shot, the production of acetylcholine stops, and the nerve impulse from the brain to the muscle is not transmitted. Thus, no muscle contraction occurs, the musculature of this face area is completely relaxed, which contributes to the gradual smoothing of existing wrinkles and serves to prevent the formation of new ones. This condition persists on average for 6-8 months, after which muscle activity is fully restored. This condition persists on average for 6-8 months, after which muscle activity is fully restored.

Are Botox and sports compatible?

The answer to the question: «Is it possible to exercise after Botox?» takes its place in post-procedural care. Any physical activity enhances metabolic processes in tissues.  Accordingly, substances received from the outside begin to be excreted much faster.  In other words, in conditions of constant sports training, the neurotoxin leaves the body too quickly, which negates the result achieved by injections.

Cosmetologists do not recommend combining intensive sports with Botox shots in one period of time. It is not even the loss of the effectiveness of the procedure, but the possible undesirable consequences for the body. First, it is an uneven distribution of the Botox in the pricked muscle, which will affect the external result. The second is the risk of the toxin spreading to other organs and systems, which can significantly worsen well-being. If you still intend to make a  Botox injection and continue to exercise, you should be aware of all the risks to your health.

It should also be remembered that each organism is individual and in case of non-compliance with the recommendation of the specialist, the consequences can be deplorable, ranging from local inflammation and external manifestations in the form of facial asymmetry, and ending with a serious aggravation of chronic diseases and diseases of the respiratory system.

It is possible to return to physical activity three weeks after necessary for the drug to spread in the muscles and begin to act. It is allowed to make easy exercises a week after the injection.

It follows that professional athletes, for whom training is mandatory daily, do not think about Botox. If sports activities are just a part of a healthy lifestyle, then their time limit will be an opportunity to restore the person’s skin firmness.

Here are Botox statistics you would love to discover. Real numbers. Real lives.
